THE DISGUSTING SANDWICH has been selected to be part of a special scheme to celebrate the 70th birthday of the Duchess of Cornwall.

To mark this grand occasion, the National Literacy Trust (NLT), of which the Duchess is a patron, is donating a selection of 70 books on a bespoke set of bookshelves to 70 schools in disadvantaged areas across the country.

The NLT have also presented a set of the books and bookshelves to the Duchess at a special children’s tea party at Clarence House. (You can read about the event here)

Schools from across the UK sent in their suggestions of "favourite books to receive as a birthday present" and the NLT used their suggestions to put together the final list of books.

In light of recent events, this scheme has also been extended to help families from Grenfell Tower. NLT will be offering an extra 120 bookshelves, to allow every family displaced by the fire to have their own collection of the Duchess’ Bookshelves titles.
